Information for parents and carers
Join the Stockbridge Beavers
Step 1: Find out if there is a space available for your young person
To find out if there is a space available please get in touch. Please let us know your name and email address and the name and date of birth of your young person. You can get in touch using our contact form or by emailing stockbridge.beavers@gmail.com.
One of our volunteer Beaver Leaders will be in touch.
If a space is available we will ask you to complete a Young Person Information Form.
If there is not currently a space available or your young person is not yet 6 years oldwe will ask if you would like to added to our waiting list.
Step 2: Complete a Young Person Information Form
If there is a space available for your young person one of our volunteer Beaver Leaders will ask you to complete a Young Person Information Form.
We can send the form by email or, if you would prefer, a Beaver Leader can complete the form with you on the phone or via video call. It is helpful if you are able to provide a photograph of your young person by email.
Please ensure all the information you provide is accurate and up to date, particularly the emergency contact details.
It is important to us that everyone is safe and able to participate as fully as possible in Scouting. Please let us know about your young person’s additional support needs. This might be information that would be essential or helpful for a first aider to have in an emergency, for example if your young person has allergies, epilepsy, or diabetes. This could also be information that helps us to make adjustments to Scouting so that your young person is safe, included, and having fun. All information will be handled with care.
Step 3: Our Leaders will create an electronic record for your young person
Once you have completed a Young Person Information Form one of our Beaver Leaders will read through the information you have provided.
If there are no issues with the information provided a record will be created for your young person on Online Scout Manager (OSM). OSM is the secure online system that the 64th ENE Scout Group, along with many others, use to store Scout members details, including Badge achievement records. If your young person moves on to Cubs their OSM record will move with them.
If you have noted additional support needs or health information on the Young Person Information Form one of our Leaders may arrange to have an informal chat with you to get more information and, in partnership with you, decide how best to support your young person to participate safely and fully in Scouts.
Step 4: Confirm when your young person will start attending Beaver meetings
One of our volunteer Beaver Leaders will get in touch once an OSM record has been created for your young person to let you know what date your young person can start attending Beavers.
Step 5: Read the information on this page
It is particularly important to review our Code of Conduct and to read the information about communication and attending Beaver meetings.
Beaver Scouts
Investiture
Being a Beaver Scout also means thinking about who you are you and what you stand for. After a few weeks your young person will be invested. This is when a Beaver Scout makes a Promise to try their best, to be kind and helpful and to love the world during a special ceremony. Faith versions of the Beaver Scout Promise are available. Parents and carers are invited to celebrate the Investiture.
Awards and badges
We believe young people learn by doing. Our Programme is bursting at the seams with a magnificent variety of activities, which engage and challenge young people of all abilities. By taking part in activities your young person can earn awards and badges. There are lots of different activity badges to cater to all sorts of interests as well as the six core Challenge awards (Adventure, Outdoors, Personal Challenge, Skills, Teamwork, and World). The highest award a Beaver Scout can achieve is the Chief Scout Bronze Award. All badges can be proudly worn on the uniform to celebrate the achievement.
Moving on to Cubs
Young people move to the next Section in the 64th Edinburgh North East Scout Group three times a year, near the beginning of each of our terms. For example, if your young person turns 8 during our Spring/Summer term they would move up to Cubs after the summer holidays. When it is time for your young person to move up to Cubs there will be a few weeks were they attend both Beavers and Cubs. We will then arrange for a Swim Up ceremony and your young person will join Cubs. All Stockbridge Beavers are guaranteed a spot at the Stockbridge Cubs.
Our Colony
Beaver Leaders
Beaver Scouts take part in activities and learn new skills under the supervision of adult volunteers. Our volunteer Leaders manage the Colony, plan and deliver the fun and challenging Programme, and support young people to learn, develop, and make a positive contribution to society. All our Leaders have completed a Personal Enquiry, with Disclosure Check (PVG), adhere to the Scout Association anti-bullying, equal opportunities, safety and child protection policies, and have access to training to support them in their roles.
Codes of Conduct
We ask our Beaver Scouts, their parents and carers, our Leaders and visitors to our Colony to follow relevant codes of conduct.
Working in partnership with young people and their parents is an important part of Scouting. Our current Beaver Scouts and Leaders worked together to create the code of conduct for all Beaver meetings and events. Future Beaver Scouts will be offered the opportunity to share their ideas and make changes to the code of conduct as part of regular reviews.
Our volunteer Leaders also adhere to Scout Association codes of practice.
Subscription cost
The 64th Edinburgh North East (Stockbridge) Scout Group collects a £15 subscription per young person per term. We have three terms a year. The first starting after the summer holidays, the second starting after the Christmas holidaus, and the third starting after the Easter holidays. We use this subscription to pay for resources and experiences for our Sections (Beavers, Cubs. and Scouts).
We collect subscriptions electronically via bank transfer. If you are unable to pay by bank transfer, require financial assistance, or have any other questions please do get in touch.

Our Meetings
When and where
Beaver meeting take place every Wednesdays during school term time from 1800 to 1900 in the school hall at Stockbridge Primary School, 17 Hamilton Place.
We may occasionally schedule activities or events outside this time or meet at locations other than our usual vanue. You will receive an email with all the details.
What to wear
Please support your young person to wear comfortable and practical clothing and shoes appropriate for the planned activities.
After Investiture young people should wear Beaver uniform –
- turquoise crew neck Beavers sweatshirt (with appropriate badges)
- emerald green Group neckerchief, rolled or folder, with a maroon woggle or friendship knot
- clothing and shoes appropriate to the activity.
Please label all items.
What to bring
You may want to bring a water bottle. We do not have access to facilities at the school to provide drinking water and your young person will be taking part in active games.
Please do not bring mobile phones, toys, or games. We do not want these to get lost or damaged. They can also be disruptive to planned activities.
Sometimes we will ask young people to bring items for activities.
Drop off and pick up
We need you to come into the school hall and speak to a Leader to sign your young person in and out of the meeting. This is important for safety and security. This is also a great opportunity for Leaders and parents to share information and reminders. We need to know who will be picking up your young person. We need their contact details so we can get in touch if the young person is not collected or in case of an emergency.
Attendance
Please let us know if your young person is not able to attend a meeting or no longer wishes to take up their space at Beavers.
Three uninformed absences will result in a discussion about how we can support attendance and may result in the space at Beavers being revoked.
Committed attendance is particularly important because Scouting does not always have enough volunteers to offer every young person a space.
