Who can become a Beaver Scout?
All young people between the ages of 6 and 8 can become Beaver Scouts regardless of gender, disability, class or socio-economic status, ethnic or national origin, nationality or race, religion, belief or faith, or sexual orientation.
My young person is not yet 6 or is already 8, how can they get involved with Scouting?
If your young person is not yet 6, get in touch and we can add them to our waiting list.
If your young person is already 8 then check out the Cubs, for all young people between the age of 8 and 10½.
What do Beaver Scouts do?
As a Beaver Scout, your young person will join their Colony in playing games, getting crafty, learning new skills, exploring the world around them, and making friends. Every week at Beavers is a little bit different and filled with lots of opportunities and adventures.
Investiture
Being a Beaver Scout also means thinking about who you are you and what you stand for. After a few weeks your young person will be invested. This is when a Beaver Scout makes a Promise to try their best, to be kind and helpful and to love the world during a special ceremony. Faith versions of the Beaver Scout Promise are available. Parents and carers are invited to celebrate the Investiture.
Badges and awards
We believe young people learn by doing. Our Programme is bursting at the seams with a magnificent variety of activities, which engage and challenge young people of all abilities. By taking part in activities your young person can earn awards and badges. There are lots of different activity badges to cater to all sorts of interests as well as the six core Challenge awards (Adventure, Outdoors, Personal Challenge, Skills, Teamwork, and World). The highest award a Beaver Scout can achieve is the Chief Scout Bronze Award. All badges can be proudly worn on the uniform to celebrate the achievement.
Skills for life
Scouting is more than just having fun. Beaver Scouts learn skills that are essential to their personal development and reaching their potential. As well as mastering plenty of practical skills, your young person will also have the chance to develop skills such as teamwork, problem solving, communication, and responsibility.
What do Beaver Scouts wear?
Scouting is a uniformed organisation. Our uniform is comfortable and practical. Wearing our uniform encourages our young people to take responsibility, gives young people a place to proudly wear their badges, and helps to create a sense of belonging. Beaver Scouts wear a turquoise crew neck sweatshirt, our emerald Group neckerchief with maroon woggle, and comfortable and appropriate clothing and shoes.
Who runs Beavers?
Beaver Scouts take part in activities and learn new skills under the supervision of adult volunteers. Our volunteer Leaders manage the Colony, plan and deliver the fun and challenging Programme, and support young people to learn, develop, and make a positive contribution to society. All our Leaders have completed a Personal Enquiry, with Disclosure Check (PVG), adhere to the Scout Association anti-bullying, equal opportunities, safety and child protection policies, and have access to training to support them in their roles.
Volunteer with us
Scouting is not just for young people. We are always keen to welcome new volunteers. Volunteering with Scouts is a brilliant way to support your community, share your skills and experience, learn new skills, and look after your health and wellbeing. Interested? Check out our Volunteer page.
